How to get dressed for an informal charity benefit

This is the first post in a series about how to dress for various fundraisers. You can read the second post here: How to dress for a corporate cocktail party.
I'm attending two wildly different benefits tonight and tomorrow night so I thought it might be fun to mention how to get dressed for them.

First up, a MayDay Party for Sunny's at The Bell House, featuring some of my favorite NY musicians.

Whenever possible, let the flyer/invitation be your guide. Even if I didn't know anything at all about the venue or the bands playing, I'd say a nautical look was obviously appropriate, and anything from a striped shirt and jeans to full on dramatic sailor looks would fit in well here. Taken directly from my Poshmark Closet, I might wear something like:

  1. Ginormous heart clip on earrings
  2. Guy Laroche asymmetrical back seam shimmer skirt
  3. Michael Antonio Studio navy wedges
  4. Ruby Sky racer back tank
  5. Anchor nautical bracelet
  6. Donna Elissa red ostrich leather drawstring bag
Tomorrow, a benefit at a fancy Long Island catering hall. Stay tuned.

  1. Loving those ginormous earrings! This was right over in our new neighborhood...I wish I had known and I would have come out :)

  2. Omg your shoes!! So amazing!

  3. Aw, too bad! (But maybe the opportunity to settle in a bit was a good plan.) I got to take the Interboro there, which is one of my favorite roads to drive on. AKA, I'm coming over. :) Are you going to the Levis 501 Lookbook thing?

  4. I bought them online and they're not quite my size, boo!

Let's dance.
